when playing a sound file I want to be able to instantly play it backwards
(e.g. upon a button pressed). just like the effect when you're playing a
piece of vinyl and rewind it manually.
so basically what I'm trying to do is to simulate a record player.
I assume it is not possible to do this with the fileplayer AU (?)

when I am using the AUfileplayer audio unit to play files is there a way

if not what would be an alternative to do so.... there's is an offline
unit in the examples folder that reverts the samples in a file but I need
to do it in real time. any hints would be great.
Please define what you mean by "real time."
When there is a file, there is a known beginning and a known end.
But if you are doing it in "real time," I'm assuming you want to take
some chunk of sound and reversing it.
But this is not really reversing it.
To wit.
Forward file: abcdefgh
Reversed file: hgfedcba
chunked and
reversed (by 2): badcfegh
Note that these reversed sequences are not even close.
Which is a long winded way of saying: more definition please!
