You need to provide a UI component for it. We make this requirement
for both generators and converters, as some of these are only useful
from a programmatic point of view.
What we do with the varispeed and time pitch, is just publish the
generic AU view as our "custom view" - probably the carbon generic
view is the simplest ('auvw', 'gnrc', 'appl')

I have built an AU Generator component that I would like to test in
AU Lab.
It validates properly with auval, passes all the tests.
It has type 'augn'.
It supports one single two channel output bus, and zero inputs.
Its auval report is identical to the auval report for
AUAudioFilePlayer, aside from manufacturer, subtype, and open times.
AU Lab doesn't seem to recognize it.
It isn't showing in the Add Audio Unit Generator... dialog.
Nor is it showing up in the effect list.
What else does AU Lab look for in a generator?
