notifying the UI from the process

I'm having problems notifying the UI from my process function. I initialized a parameter listener, but when I call following functions, it never reaches my listener proc:
AUParameterSet(NULL, NULL, &_messengerParam, value, 0); AUParameterListenerNotify(NULL, NULL, & _messengerParam);
am I doing something wrong?
