OK thanks, I will move my main question to the openal list.

Just to clarify, Is the OpenAL FAQ on Apple's website incorrect? It mentions 1.2 not 1.1?

I thought maybe updating to the latest CoreAudio SDK would give me the newer headers. I guess I should have looked at the date on those more carefully.

According to a previous posting here by William Stewart, there Tiger 4.7 added OpenAL 1.1 support. The apple website mentions that OpenAL 1.2 is supported in a 1.0 framework. How is it possible that Apple is on version 1.2 when Creative is on 1.1? How does one support 1.2 in a 1.0 framework? The APIs are different.

The version of the installed system framework has nothing to do with the particular version of a spec that is supported by that implementation.

With 10.4.7, the Open AL that is available to you is compliant to the 1.1 specification of OpenAL.

When I look at the headers for the framework they still look like the 1.0 headers.

Yes - the headers are NOT updated with System updates, just the binaries.

The open al dev list is probably a better forum for questions about Open AL - we monitor that list as well.

Things like AL_VERSION_1_1 is not defined. The Resources folder has an Version.plist with 1.1 in it. For alut, in OpenAL 1.1 the function alutLoadWAVFile is deprecated but does not seem to be in the headers in the Apple framework. Do I need to install a newer version of the OpenAL.framework to get to 1.1 headers? In OpenAL 1.1 ALUT is separate library called freealut, is that reflected in Apple's version too?

Can someone here clarify all this? I think I am missing something. Thanks.
