Have a look at the host callbacks - there are three and they provide
information about beats/tempo and other time line information...
There were some other posts on this topic today in fact.

Hey Doug!
I did build a seperate application to test the code and it worked.
So I moved all the code into my AUKernel derived class and it
worked (although the constructor gets called twice so my port
showed up twice).
I think the biggest problem is I want to use an AU for what it
isn't intended at the moment. I am creating an arp inside of an AU
and only doing midi with it. I just pass the audio straight
through it on whatever track it is instantiated on. The issue of
course, which is funny that someone else mentioned this, is that
the app is doing some pre-rendering it appears. So I am trying to
figure out how in the AU to know more about what the app is doing
whenever process is called.
Is there anyway to register a function to run only when the host is
actually running a sequence?
