AUGraphStop can stop the hardware which indeed will reduce the CPU load. But it can also take a bit longer to restart the hardware afterwards; that's the tradeoff. Also with AUAudioFilePlayer, there's an opportunity for some artifacts if you just stop and restart the graph. If you're going to stop the graph, I'd recommend resetting the file player after stopping the graph.
How do I reset the File Player ?
