Writing a Program to maintain MIDI data

Is there any good sample code to work from to write a program to Maintain Midi data on a GM/GS sound module.
The instrument is a MIDI Accordion which stores it's performance settings on a sound module. I would like to
be able to program the performance settings from an application then store them on the sound module.
Right now you have to program all of the performance settings from the Midi Accordion control panel.
I do have access the the Midi specs of the sound module.

Thanks
