audio2midi AU possible?

  • Subject: audio2midi AU possible?

hi,

I want to build a simple AU that analyzes an incoming audio signal whether
it is at / below a specific volume threshold, and accordingly create a midi
note event that is output to a selectable midi device endpoint...

I have the cocoa code for the endpoint detection (so I have a list of all of
my midi devices installed), but I'm not sure whether it is possible at all
to let an AU control / write to a midi device?

If it is not possible to build audio2midi AUs, how would you start coding a
standalone application that receives audio on several virtual inputs (that
can be fed from logic or ableton live) to 'simulate' several audio2midi AUs?

Thanks so much for your help,
Alex
