MIDI in/MIDI out using Audio Units?

  • Subject: MIDI in/MIDI out using Audio Units?

Hello.

I am planning to write an Audio Unit which is to
be used in Logic Pro as a virtual instrument.

This virtual instrument should receive MIDI data and
alter it, then pass it on to another Audio Unit (e.g. a
sampler, the Kontakt Player).

My first thought was to implement the Audio Unit as an
Audio Unit host application itself, because to my knowledge
Logic Pro does not provide a means for MIDI ``passthrough''
Audio Units.

Now my questions are:

1) Which documentation do I need to be able to implement
the Audio Units' host-side. Any pointers?

2) Is there not an easier way to implement this specific
   case?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Robert Drehmel
