This morning I was finally able to get my code to work properly across device or format changes and still satisfy the requirements of the rest of the code base. I (finally) took the advice of people on the list and rewrote everything using the default audio unit (and for those of you who recall my timing issues, I was able to get everything to work using the host time, rather than the sample time).

I'd like to thank everybody on the list who helped me with all of that and in particular William Stewart and Jeff Moore for answering all of those questions I had 6 or so months ago and for pointing me in the right direction time after time.
