Multi-processor detection

  • Subject: Multi-processor detection

I have been playing with the DeferredRender AU and it seems to work VERY WELL on a multi-processor machine for distributing my renders from multiple AU sources across available processors - Thank you, Apple Folks! However, on a single processor machine, the DeferredRender AU appears to adds scheduling overhead (not surprising) that reduces the render performance noticeably.

Is there a simple way to detect at run time if multiple processors are available so my software can decide if it should or should not use the DeferredRender AU?

Thanks,
Ethan...
