There's no mechanism to publish a restricted set of sample rates. I'm not convinced that we should go down that path.

In the case you mention, this isn't applicable if your AU is doing its work in an offline context (so perhaps providing an offline effect version would be a good choice in any case). I know in the past many companies based these decisions on CPU type (plugins were only supported on G4 with altivec was a popular one) when their DSP was really pushing the limits.

Its also hard in many cases to really define or quantify "sufficient CPU power"; this whole notion is not simple to define with current processor models (particularly with audio usage patterns) and of course "sufficient" is totally dependent on what else the user is doing at the same time.

We've also supported a CPU usage/render quality property in our AUs - the DLS Synth and the reverb for example - that allows the user to still use the AU but with the ability to limit the computation work they perform (for instance in the DLS Synth the quality settings will adjust the level at which a note is considered to be finished).

Hi all,

Is there any mechanism for an AU to report which sample rates it can and cannot support, or are AUs expected to support any sample rate if sufficient CPU power is available?

Best regards,
