Thanks very much for everyone's kind help. In fact Peter's suggestion earlier today was the solution (I'm just checking it now).

The problem was caused, apparently, by my CFBundleName in English.lproj/InfoPlist.strings being incorrect, and therefore not matching either something in Info.plist or my .r file.

It would seem that some hosts are more forgiving about this than others. Perhaps it would be worth adding checks for this in the auval tool if its an important consideration.

Anyway, I real appreciate everyone's help with fixing this perplexing problem.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,

Would you mind sending me your au? I'll take a look and see if I can debug the problem and give you some guidance as to why this isn't showing up.

Thanks,

Michael

Thanks for the further suggestions.

Both my plug that works and my plug that doesn't are built as universal binaries (I'm working on an Intel machine). Both plugs are stereo to stereo, and I'm trying to find them in AULab with a stereo strip, and in Logic with the stereo AudioUnits list - one plug is found, the other isn't.

I know that with VST plugs, this sort of problem can occur if the AEffect structure gets passed back to the host incorrectly (eg- with incorrect magic), but I don't know what things can cause these kind of problems with AudioUnits.

Thanks for any help.

Also, for AULab if you have a plugin that only does stereo, you have to make sure that you are on a strip in AULab that is stereo. If you had say a mono input, then we'd only show mono AUs in that strip (or mono-stereo)

Thanks for the suggestion.

auval appears to give the AudioUnit a clean bill of health - everything is a PASS.

My plugin takes stereo input and gives out stereo output, and another AudioUnit I've made, using a similar framework, shows up fine, there's obviously just something funny about this one, but I don't know how to figure out what it is.

Further testing has revealed that this AudioUnit works in Live, Peak, Garage Band and auval, but doesn't even show up in AULab or Logic. Its a mystery to me.

I don't really know my way around the AU framework that well yet. Is there an entry function somewhere that the host calls to establish communication, or is that hidden deep in the heart of the component framework?

Paul

Hi Paul,

did you make sure that the AU you're building passes the auval tests?

Are you sure that the input/output configuration is correct for the
context in which you are trying to load the plug in in Logic?

Hi,

This is a bit of a beginner question, sorry. I have an AudioUnit plugin
built, which is recognised and functions (more-or-less correctly) in Ableton
Live 6 and Bias Peak 5 (on OSX 10.4).

However, neither AULab or Logic even see this plugin. When I try to add it
as an effect, its not even in the list for me to select.

Please can anyone suggest what sort of things would cause AULab and Logic
not to even "see" an AU? How do I go about debugging this?

Any help gratefully received.

Paul
