* After much experimentation, I was able to get Windows VST's runningon my Intel MINI under Crossover with MiniHost - sound output throughJACK, broadcast via AUNetSend/Receive to my G4 Laptop. Not Ready forPrime Time due to lack of MIDI support in Crossover, but still cool.
I wonder if MidiOverLanCP would do the trick to get around the lack ofMIDI support?

Thanks to all who have commented on this thread thus far. Rather than continuing down the rat's nest of DRM discussion though, I wanted to continue to appeal to *developer* sensibilities, which I think will resonate most with readers of this list (not to mention remain on-topic).

Angus's post re: MIDIOverLanCP made me think of this product announcement from NAMM:

http://www.audioimpressions.com

I've never demo'd this product, nor have any relationship to the people behind it - all I know about it is based on press releases and product info on their web site. That said, I was impressed by what seemed to be a lot of work to allow for intercomputer/interapplication audio, midi, and transport information to be communicated in real time. So how did they do it?

The answers lie buried on this page, in the "System requirements and architecture" section:

http://www.audioimpressions.com/Support/FAQ/

Basically, they had to resort to the Herculean task of cobbling together a combination of ReWire, AU/VST plugins, MIDIOverLanCP, and FX Teleport to do the job.

To me, this reeks of a situation begging for an integrated solution. I truly believe that Apple could solidly re-establish itself as a leader in the audio space with a disruptive technology like this.
