Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the info; as I said, I had removed those files, but could not
create any new aggregates; they built in the ADE in AMS but as soon as quit
AMS, they were gone.
The info you provided gave me confidence that I was not missing anything and
that allowed me to track down the problem...
As it turns out the group id was wrong on both the:
/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist file
and the
/Library/Preferences/ directory.
After I corrected both of them, things started working again. Fixing just
the file was not sufficient.
I suppose that Fixing permissions with disk utility would have probably
taken care of this, but perhaps it would be good to have AMS check for
permissions problems (or errors in the CFPrefs routines) that would lead to
this bizarre behavior. I'll file a radar.
