Yes
The Migration API is constructed to allow new audio units to supersede
old ones. AudioUnitProperties.h has some details.
The only concern I would have is the support from the host apps. I
know that Logic has some support for this (including I think
translating old AUs) and I think MoTU added support for MAS plugins,
but I don't know about their AU migration support.

Hi,
is it possible to take old saved session data (esp. in Logic and
Digital Performer), and somehow translate that for use in a new plug-
in? What I'm trying to do is to create a new version of our
existing plug-in, but with a different name and a different
parameter order, and allow it to be loaded in sessions saved using
our old plug-in.
The way I imagine it working is to run some kind of translator
utility which reads in the old session data and writes it back out
as a new session file, with the new plug-in name and new parameter
list (and values).
Is this possible? Does Apple publish the session data format? How
about MOTU? (And other AU host vendors?)
Thanks,
