Seems like my plugs with multiple output channels don't work in Logic 8.
Allegedly they are only available as stereo out, which, in turn, is really strange
since they aren't really claiming to be able to do stereo output at all.

Has the AU specs for multiple outputs changed lately, or is
this some kind of bug in Logic 8? Does anybody know how
to get around it?

email@hidden is better suited for logic specific question.
Indeed, this is our official Logic-related AU developer support address.

That said, there have been no changes to the AU spec, but Logic 8 is much
stricter regarding following the specs, because it now also supports surround
and needs to distinguish between multi-out and multi-channel (aka surround).
Plus, it seemed reasonable to finally follow Apple's specs in Apple's apps. :-)

Please read this document for further information about multi-out in AU world:

Best,
Stefan

PS: When importing Logic 7 songs into Logic 8, we still support the out-of-spec
mode that previous Logic versions had - because there were no surround plug-ins
in Logic 7 it's easy to distinguish between surround and multi-out in that case.
This shall make for a somewhat smoother transition.
