What does error -50 mean?

  • Subject: What does error -50 mean?

I've got audio unit state saving via the class info attribute - except when it doesn't work. Which appears to be random - perhaps some kind of race condition?

Actually, saving works great. Restoring works only sometimes. And since restoring sometimes fails, I sometimes get bogus data saved when snapshotting the state of the rig.

I've taken to getting it immediately after setting it - I get no error when setting it fails. But getting it fails with -50 and the state dictionary is nil when the set failed.

So what does -50 mean? Why does it fail *sometimes*? I've tried the check-for-uninitialized error, call initialize and retry trick - it still fails - sometimes. I'm really tired of screwing with this problem - it is the only problem I have left and it is driving me nuts.

So what, exactly is the whole trick to making this work? FWIW, it fails with all kinds of virtual instruments - not just one.
