How to add an Audio Unit to Kalimba?

Much thanks to everyone for answering my last question so thoroughly!

I'd like to solve the problem using Core Audio, as I suspect this will minimize integration issues, and this apparently entails using Audio Units, which I haven't used before.
I looked at the document Turning Up the Volume with Audio Units (http://developer.apple.com/audio/audiounits.html) and the closest thing to a tutorial calls for creating a new project, which I did, but the new project doesn't do anything on its own and the code that's there in the documentation appears to have a different format than the code in the new project, like it's C++ instead of Objective-C. How does one go about combining these in a single file? Supposedly everything is written in C++ in Core Audio, or am I mistaken in this?

In any event, the only documentation on the subject of Audio Units that goes into implementation detail doesn't compile or run. Can someone help explain the syntax of how to use AUTimePitch or AUPitch applied to the AudioFX instances made in the Kalimba demo that does compile and run? I have a sneaking suspicion I'm not going to be able to glean any immediately useful information from the online documentation on the subject I'm currently aware of.

Anyone who might mercifully relieve me of this psychic burden of frustration by explaining how one goes about applying an AUPitch (or AUTimePitch) to an instance of AudioFX to Kalimba (which doesn't seem to recognize AUPitch or AUTimePitch as keywords and maybe someone can explain this as well) will have my eternal gratitude.

Thank you much,
Sam
