Ah, I understand your confusion. The Creator Code is the Manufacturer Code. Apple still registers creator codes.
You mention that you want to register a manufacturer code, but complain that Apple no longer registers file types, resource types, icons, fonts or component types. But "manufacturer code" is not on the list of codes that are no longer registered. The manufacturer code is the creator code. At least that's what I use for my AudioUnit releases.
