Philip,
Though I'm not an Apple engineer, my guess is that these routines
won't be going away when they're obsoleted, they'll be replaced with
like named calls and functionality that don't use FSSpec as a file
reference.
I'm willing to bet a whole nickle that it's FSSpec that's going away,
not the functions themselves.

I've asked this question before and got pointed in a couple

but...
If MusicSequenceSaveSMF and MusicSequenceSaveSMFData have both been
deprecated in 10.4 and 10.5, then how does one save data to a
MIDI/SMF file that all of the Apple music applications will like
short of writing everything out byte by byte (which is what I'm
doing now but have hit major hurdles that are tough to debug)?
There is everything to say how a file is read, but nothing to say
how a file is written, and no docs on where to go from there. I'd
even look into creating native Logic and Garageband files if that
were possible, but reading this stuff is like reading bad stereo
instructions. I'm looking at this page now...

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
