Mike,
I did start by reading the "Audio Queue Services Programming Guide",
and I wasted several weeks trying to understand it and
(unsuccessfully) adapt it to my needs. IMHO it is abysmally poorly
written.
By contrast, I spent less than an hour studying the AudioQueue.h file,
have spent less than 1/2 day reprogramming my app based on what I
learned, and I'm well on my way to getting the app to work.

I would first start with reading the audioQueue services programming
guide. That will give a huge advantage in the understanding about how
the service actually works.
Next, when writing your piece of code the AudioQueue functions return
values. If something goes wrong and the queue isn't crated properly or
something it will crash your program because the value of your queue
pointer will be unknown.
Mike.

Purely by accident, I've stumbled across the file <AudioQueue.h>,
which contains the information about AudioQueue I've been searching
for!
I would like to suggest it to any newbie who, like myself, seeks a
starting point for understanding how to use AudioQueue.
