MOTU interfaces have CueMix. I use it all the time in live situations to provide Main and monitor mixes (8 channels or 4 stereo busses) while recording.
As experienced MOTU user, would you Brian have the time to verify which of my requirements (number and kinds of I/O, usage pattern etc) are fulfilled by MOTU? If so, I could send you my list - it is 8 points or so.
Yes, feel free to send me your list and I'll do my best, based on my experience, to indicate what is supported. However, please make this a private email and not to the whole mailing list. Ability to send, in real-time, all bits from AES/SPDIF stream including control and auxiliary information (the 8 extra bits from each 32 bits wide wire word) to an application being another. OTH, the 2 other devices give me 8 channels of digital AES in/out directly whereas RME requires a Lighpipe/AES converter box.
This "feature" is not available on the Mac. I have put in a request that they update their driver to support this on OS X.
That I didn't know - yet another example that one shouldn't assume support for a particular feature on a particular OS just because it is supported on another. Thanks for putting in the request; you can add me to the list. I hope they will fix it before I need it in the second part of current project. Could you please put in a request for optional OS X master volume enabling for outgoing (from computer) streams? I think your requests have more weight than mine :-)
Gee, I'd like to help, but it is impossible. All of the RME owners that I know have warned me that they simply ignore email. The only way to contact RME is through the forum on their site. There simply is no way for me to add you to their list of people who want this feature - you'll have to do it yourself. I do not work for RME.
I also cannot request your features for you. You might think that I have some clout around here in the CoreAudio world (and even that's debatable), but I have zero clout in the RME Forums. It took me several attempts to convince them that I even knew what I was talking about before I could request the feature.
You are a businessman who stands to make a profit from the features you're requesting. If you want that to pan out, then you're going to have to represent yourself with these manufacturers, particularly RME, if you are to have any hope of building a secondary business off their products. I cannot communicate your feature requests with any accuracy. Only you understand your needs well enough to survive the language barrier.
