low jitter 1ms callback for MIDI scheduling?

Hi Peoples

I'm a bit new to all this fancy OSX stuff, could someone please tell me what the best way to get a low-jitter 1ms timer callback for MIDI (or OSC) event scheduling? I've been using timesetevent() on Win32 if that gives you any idea what I'm looking for.

I notice the following thread from 2006 discussing the use of pthread timed wait. Like Stephan I'm wondering if there is a high level timer callback api I can use? Also, the discussion tapered out with a rather concerning mention of a spin lock on the pthreads implementation and a suggestion to use mach semaphores instead:

Can someone update me on the pthreads situation and recommend a course of action?

Thanks

Ross.
