remote IO, audio unit latency

Bit of a newbie here, i've never done DSP in C but am familiar with some of the principles

I was just playing around with the remoteIO Audio Unit for iphone  to get "low latency" access to input & output

I set up a simple play-through graph, using following as sample code. It works, but there's a lag of 0.3s (i'm guessing) between mic in -> headphones out
http://developer.apple.com/samplecode/SimplePlayThru/index.html

Maybe there a buffer / latency setting on the audio unit I can change to reduce this? What's the best that can be expected for this latency? Whether on a Mac/PC or iphone I imagine it should be / could be much faster..

thanks -wunder
