HAL Plug-In causes coreaudiod to hang

I've written a HAL plugin. For the most part everything is working well. I do have one outstanding issue that remains. coreaudiod and UserEventAgent are both showing up as hung in Activity Monitor. Neither of them are in fact hung as you can still watch the various stats increment if you bring up the process specific information.

I've found quite a few references to this problem on the web, but have been unable to find a solution to this problem. Does anybody have any insight? I'd greatly appreciate the help.
