5.1 Surround-to-stereo AU

Hi all,

I am trying to get a 5.1-to-stereo AU plug in (currently
kAudioUnitType_Effect) to run in AULab and Logic. So far I have been
unsuccessful, even though I report the correct number of input and
output channels (6 in, 2 out, via SupportedNumChannels()) to the host
it doesn't show up in the list of available plug ins. It won't even
show up if I report {6,6} as channel counts... Is there a trick to
this or am I missing something obvious here? Should I rather use
kAudioUnitSubType_Merger as AU type?

How am I supposed to set up AULab or Logic to support and load this?

Also, in my AU how do I know which channel is which? Ie. the channel
labels for RS, LS, R, L, C and LFE.

Thanks!
