I'd like to add my votes for these items as well:
- Allowing an AU to control the transport, and specify tempo (as in
ReWire)
- Direct streaming of MIDI between AU's, or between an AU and the host.
Best,
Jim

It would be *so* useful. Right now I have to generate MIDI clock from
my AU, which sucks, especially when the host's implementation of MIDI
sync is somewhat lacking (naming no names).

Most of the common AU plug ins are effects or instruments. I don't
think that what you have in mind is possible to do with an AU. While
you can write an AU plug in using Cocoa only (well, almost), AUs
don't
allow much control over the host in which they are running, which is
something you will need when running a sequencer inside a sequencer
that does more than continuous pattern playback sync'ed to the host.
You could create your own AU graph inside your sequencer AU using the
AUs that are available on the system, but I'm not sure if it would
make any sense for a user to have AU plug ins and instruments
inside a
sequencer running inside a sequencer... to me, that sounds like a
nightmare to set up (no pun intended).
