You want to head over to the perfoptimization-dev list, also hosted
by Apple, where they can clear up all of these API.
I agree that the DSP routines can be confusing. If you have a strong
background in the math behind all of this, then everything is exactly
as you would expect it to be. However, if you're coming into this
with the concepts in place, but are learning the details for the
first time, then it can easily be the case that you aren't asking for
the right data, or aren't interpreting it correctly. In any event
the Performance Optimization Developers mailing list is the place to
be. They probably have all the FAQs and other support you'll need.
