setting up PYMIDI

I'm wondering whether anyone can give me a quick step-by-step guide to get my MIDI system going?

What I want to do:

1) Get a MusicPlayer-based sequencer sending MIDI to the IAC Bus. This is working!

2) Get MIDI input from my keyboard passing "thru" to the same IAC Bus port. Not working...

I'll ultimately want to record the "live" MIDI, and do other things with it, but even if someone can just help me get the basics working I'd really appreciate it. I don't know why, but the way endpoints, sources, and destinations work in CoreMIDI make very little sense to me.
