Have a look at PlaySequece in /Developer/Examples/CoreAudio - it has an option to render a MIDI file to audio and is pretty much what you are doing I think

Is there a method for rendering a mix in compute-time instead of real-time? I'm using Audio Units, AU Graph and CoreAudio Framework. At present, a one minute track takes one minute to render to file. It would be great if I could render that in a matter of seconds given that all the effects units and playback units are virtual.
