Thanks Kyle and Bill for these helpful answers!

So obviously I can't do my pitch control (on desktop by the way) with audio queues and will have to make the step into audio units. Judging from what I have been reading so far, this is where it gets difficult for beginners due to the lack of documentation...

My first little research yielded some resources I'd like to share here for everyone who might stumble upon this thread:

        http://www.subfurther.com/blog/?p=507

This blog entry was extremely helpful for understanding some CA basics, especially the difference between the two concepts "audio queues" and "audio units". It's also a great starting point because it links to more fundamental material.

Also worth mentioning for starting with AU seems to be this one:

       https://devforums.apple.com/thread/1140?start=0&tstart=0

(I think you have to be an iPhone developer to access it)

Final question: since CA documentation is so sparse, wouldn't it be a good idea to create a common place where the blog/forum/mailing list knowledge is bundled? I'm thinking something simple like del.icio.us or a thread "Core Audio for beginners" in this list. Or are there legal (or other) issues with that? I couldn't find anything of that kind yet. And I'm new to this list so I don't really dare to do it myself here :-).

Thanks again!
Sebastian

Yes, but you can't access this directly through audio queue - if you look at the PlayFile example, you can use that as a starting point, then insert a varispeed between it and the output unit (or create a mixer for multiple files) (I'm presuming this is for desktop, but you don't say)

But now i have to leave the secure area of the tutorial as I try to create a
"pitch slider", that changes the pitch (just the sample rate, no
pitch-shifting!) during playback of my audio files. Pretty much like on a
DJ's turntable, only with a wider range.

Isn't this exactly what the AUVarispeed Audio Unit is intended for?
