I would like to understand why this is so incredibly difficult to do
directly via Cocoa and CoreAudio. As a matter of policy, I don't like
to call scripts (shell, Perl, Python, AppleScript, etc.) from
"lower-level" Objective-C (or C++) code. It simply makes no sense to
me. I'm new to programming for the Mac in general, but I've been
writing code for almost 20 years, and I don't remember ever having
break this policy before. Therefore, I am extremely curious to learn
why in this particular situation this long-standing policy needs to be
broken. I am really dumbfounded.
