Don't have it in front of me - but I think I just looked at the current level and waited for it to hit a certain level. I kept the recording going, but based on the level I wrote the buffer or not. More complicated than that a bit, but not much.

Thanks! That's great news!

One question:

What part of the API did you use to implement the actual voice- detection?

Thanks,
Bob

AUHAL could be used for this.

Even easier though, I think you should just be able to use and
AudioQueue

Hi All,

I'm trying to put together a CoreAudio app that would start
recording from an input, triggered by speech (kind of like those
voice-activated tape recorders.)

The order of ops would be:

1. Open an audio input for recording to a file.
2. Do nothing while detecting silence.
3. Upon detecting non-silence, start recording to said file.
4. Stop recording after x seconds of silence.

Is it possible to construct a CoreAudio app with the standard-issue
AU's shipped with MacOS 10.5.x?

Or do I have to make a custom AU to do this?

Any pointers on where to start or how to go about this would be
much appreciated!

Thanks,
Bob Ingraham
