My guess from reading the exception text is that this Alesis device isn't compatible with your 3rd gen iPod Touch.
This hunch is reinforced by the text on the Alesis website where it says in the small print:
"ProTrack records to iPod Classic 7th and 6th generation, 5th-generation iPod, 3rd and 2nd-generation iPod nano, 2nd-generation iPod Touch, and iPod nano-chromatic." I take this to mean that it doesn't work with the either iPhone or the 3rd gen Touch given how carefully worded it is.
That said, this is mostly guess work on my part. You should contact Alesis to get definitive information.

It's a bit hard to debug because the protrack doesn't have a USB port, so I have to log everything. When I plug the iPod touch 3rd Gen into the protrack, it seems the Property Listener is called twice in succession, first with "NewDeviceAvailable" and "Speaker" as the old and new route, and then immediately again with "CategoryChange" and "LineOut" as the old route and "Speaker" as the new route. I never get "LineOut" as the new route. The log is below. Does it have anything to do with the exceptions thrown after the microphone arrives? Happens on iPods and iPhones alike. Thanks for any input.
