Hi Darren

There is a mixer - its just a different type than the stereo mixer on the desktop, but you should be able to do what that does
There is an output unit - AURIO (AU Remote IO) - that is the same as the desktop's default AU

There is no DLS Synth or effects - we are currently looking at this, so if you would like to see something please write a bug (http://bugreporter.apple.com) and describe what you would like to see.

As for the MIDI mechanism - I'm not sure what you mean by this - is this the MusicPlayer and MusicSequence APIs you are missing?

Thanks

Bill

Hi everyone, I posted this question to the iPhone forums, but seeing as this is probably a more main stream avenue for core audio stuff, I thought I would ask here as well

I've been spending some time learning more about Core Audio and Audio Units.  I have a pretty neat application built on my desktop.  I knew from the get-go that there would be a more limiting environment on the iPhone, but i was surprised to see how much is missing, compared to Mac OS.  For example there is no DLSSynth (critical for me), no stereoMixer, no effects, and no defaultOutput.  I'm not really complaining as I'm sure there are technical reasons for this, but I'm moreso wondering how the more advanced Core Audio developers are coping with this?  There are some cool apps on the app store for synthesizing music; are the developers writing their own synthesis audio units behind the scene?  Did they also implement their own MIDI mechanism to control said units?  Going that deep woudl be over my head for the time being.  Seeing as it *can* be done, do you think Apple has plans to complement the current set of audio units any time soon? thanks for your advice.
