iPhone OS: AVAudioRecorder .aif format

Does the AVAudioRecorder always create AIFC-style .aif files, even if the contents are AIFF-compatible (e.g., big-endian integer LPCM)?

I'm working with someone using a library that seems to only want AIFF, not AIFC, and apparently can't deal with the files AVAudioRecorder is producing for that reason.
