Actually this turns out to be the part I am left the most confused
about.  After the initial mixer has reduced its 6 inputs down to 2
outputs, I want to modify the contents of those output buffers.  Is
this not possible yet?  Applying effects processing to all 6 channels
in their render callbacks is unnecessary when all I really want is to
apply it to the downmixed data.
