Try searching for MusicPlayer in the latest Xcode Developer Documentation (3.1.3). Used to work, comes up empty now.

ok - we'll look into that

Or look at the latest pdf for Core Audio at <http://developer.apple.com/legacy/mac/library/documentation/MusicAudio/Reference/CoreAudio/CoreAudio.pdf > which is flagged as legacy. If there are sanctioned, non-legacy versions of the documentation for Core Audio available, I'd love to know where they are.

That is just the document that is legacy, but you shouldn't infer anything about the content. If an API is truly a legacy API, it will be marked as DEPRECATED. We also usually put comments in the header files explaining this as well.

I did have a look at some of the MusicPlayer examples,
must of the documentation has the yellow "Legacy Document" alert.

Really? Where can I find that? Are you sure you aren't confusing this with the Quicktime Music header?

I am referring to <AudioToolbox/MusicPlayer.h>

And there is no documentation on QTMediaTypeMusic,

there is a book about QTMA in the original QT documentation, but like I said, I wouldn't be looking at this

is there any relation between the Media of a QTMediaTypeMusic and a MusicSequence from the MusicPlayer ?
no

or any functions to translate one to the other ?

no

I am using QT for playback, it's a movie with a midi soundtrack, and it's playing fine,
but i need some info from the midi file for building the movie,
I guess i could use the MusicPlayer for getting the info.

yes, you'd have to do that. The information you want was never actually preserved in QTMA anyway (which is one of the reasons we don't support it anymore)

I know this might be OT,
but i make a new QTMovie from a midifile,
and it makes a track of type QTMediaTypeMusic,
is there anyway i can get info like tempo, time sign, tempotrack ?

no - QTMA (QT Music Architecture) has been deprecated since 10.4, so its not an API I would advise you to start looking at at this time. You should look at <AudioToolbox/MusicPlayer.h> and the PlaySequence example code for a way to play MIDI files in your application

I am on 10.6, what framework is playing the midifile ?

If you are playing the MIDI file in the Finder, then QT does. Otherwise there are any number of programs that can render midi files, so this is an impossible question to answer.
