You should file your own feature request at bugreport, they'll see it's a duplicate and merge it.

Without giving too much thought about what the API would be, it would be great to get the sound from the two mics as two stereo channels (I know that is not what they are.)

Too bad. I filed a feature in bugreport. I think a remoteIO like unit with two busses, one for each mic, would be a nice way of doing it if it were possible.
