I just now came across a case where I would hope for the opposite
recommendation.
If a software synthesizer happened to be a real CPU hog, but a user
still wanted to instantiate it in a Logic Song, then it might be
helpful to be able to use Bypass to turn off the music device's
internal rendering during Logic's habit of keeping the currently-
selected track rendering for live MIDI input.
I suppose this is really an edge case, since it involves an
underpowered machine and/or a CPU hog music device in combination
with Logic's live MIDI rendering, but it still seems to me like it
would be a bad idea to preclude Bypass just because an AU is aumd.
I also realize that it has been almost two years since this
unofficial recommendation was made. Has anything been formalized in
the interim? Any updated recommendation? Note that the above aumd
is not hypothetical, nor is the user case of wanting to spare the CPU
some of the time when using the AU in Logic.

So, Robert and I have been talking about this offline.
His audio unit is an instrument (type aumd - music device)
We don't normally implement bypass for instruments, it is generally
considered a property for processing rather than generating audio,
and it would appear that Digital Performer is behaving strangely
when seeing instruments with this property implemented. As I also
dont' know of any other instruments that implement this property
either; all in all it seems better for him to remove this feature
from his AU.
For effects though, we would still like and expect to see the
property supported

it seems that no major host is using this property.

Only Digital Performer (6.0.1) is calling it on startup and

forever.
Is there any host using this property or can i safly remove it ?
