Non-compositing windows?

Hey folks,

I'm still stuck on GUI for my AU - in compositing mode it works just fine. But for non-compositing (embedding), it never receives kEventControlDraw event. Is there some simple code creating a window in non-compositing mode, adding single custom control, so I can experiment on it a little?
Btw. do you know how many AU hosts are still using this mode, which I think is deprecated? I know Reaper does, but that's all.
