Hmm, it's obviously not because of the view. I now tried the following:
1: Using XCode 3.2 I created a new project from a standard template ("Audio Unit Effect with Cocoa View").
2: I changed 1 thing in the project only: I changed the architechture to 64-bit Intel
3: I build it, and copied it to the components folder
4: I ran auval -64 -a: The plug-in did not show up.
This is where I'm feeling kinda lost...
In case it matters, I'm running OSX 10.6
