Hi
Let me just say that I solved this problem. Because of a programming error, I had instructed AUGraph to add a node with manufacturer 'GOSW' and type limiter, and another node with the same manufacturer and type output. 'GOSW' was the third party manufacturer of the soft synth, I had simply forgotten to change the manufacturer entry in the ComponentDescription structure when adding the two nodes. So the bad components where the limiter and output nodes, not the soft synth. The other problem, of displaying the Carbon UI, is not yet solved. Thanks for your help, anyway.

Well for a start, -2005 is "bad component". Have you been able to access this soft synth via other tools? Does it show up in the menu for AULab? That might be worth trying but offhand I do not know if it would. I have not looked at your sample code yet, but it would be worth you figuring out if this synth component even installed correctly before you chase problems in your code.
