I know I'll be hated for saying this, but.... if someone is to
program a new (32-bit) application, using Cocoa or not, he surely
should take steps to support the batch of Carbon (only) plug-ins
out there.
I'm sure a lot of developers will move to Cocoa, but only for 64-
bit plug-ins. I know that's what I'm planning, and it's what I'm
recommending for all my clients. Honestly, anything else is a waste
of time in my opinion.
So, while Cocoa is unavoidable for 64-bit, surely creating a 32-bit
host with no support for Carbon means you won't be able to support
a lot of the plug-ins out there.
Keep in mind that AudioUnits have more than two UI options. It's not
purely a choice between Carbon and Cocoa. It's entirely possible to
build an application-native UI without loading either flavor of built-
in plugin interfaces.
I submit that the set of Carbon-only AudioUnits which only work with
their built-in UI has got to be rather small. You still have access
to all of the parameters. Look at hosts like Logic and Ableton Live
to see how much access a plugin allows without loading its specific UI.
