DLSMusicDevice compatibility

Is it accurate to say that the DLSMusicDevice does not recognize articulations for DLS Level 1 sound banks? (DLS Level 1 apparently can store articulations in the either the lart:art1 chunk or the lar2:art1 chunk, but at the instrument level, not per region as in DLS Level 2).
