ipad 2 aac hardware encoder problem?

  • Subject: ipad 2 aac hardware encoder problem?

I'm using the hardware encoder to create an AAC file, which works fine on the iPod Touch 3g, iphone 3GS and iPhone 4, and iPad 1, but seems to create a very distorted file when I use the iPad 2.  I only have access to one such device, but it seems to demonstrate the same behaviour when I try the ExtAudioFIleConvert sample project in Apple's sample code. In particular, if you convert to AAC at anything other than the input sample rate  (44.1K, 22k, 8K) you get a distorted (sounds slower that it should) output file, while if you use the 'source' sample rate (48K) it sounds fine.

Has anybody else seen this, or is it a hardware problem with this particular iPad 2?

thanks
wil
