MatrixMixer CPU usage

It seems like MatrixMixer takes a huge amount of CPU, even just sitting there.

I thought it was me, but Apple's MatrixMixer Test uses 38% of a 1.5GHz Core Solo before anything is enabled or loaded. Playing back an m4a file raises that to about 40%. So the decoding and actual shuffling around of data uses about 1/20 as much CPU as the MatrixMixer overhead. Does that seem right to you?

Is there any way I can reduce the overhead when it's not doing anything? Or am I stuck with that if I use MM?

Thanks,
