AudioOutputUnitStart takes time...

Hi,

    I am trying to develop an audio engine using CoreAudio API. I am facing a problem with function AudioOutputUnitStart. This function sometimes takes a lot(150 - 180ms) of time. Sometimes it finishes within 3-4 ms. I am not able to determine when it takes time and when it finishes fast. It is appearing random to me currently. Could you please help me out in deciphering why I am seeing this odd behavior? I have also seen other functions like AudioUnitInitialize take more time. But, this happens less frequently compared to the slow execution of AudioOutputUnitStart. Thanks for your help in advance.
