hi,

i am developing a cross platform app- audio provided by RTAudio http://www.music.mcgill.ca/~gary/rtaudio/

I am experiencing strange issues when trying to change the samplerate of the stream for the built in i/o coreaudio drivers on snow leopard (on my 2010 macbook pro). The same thing does not happen with my motu 828 mkII's coreaudio driver. Also it does not happen on the built-in coreaudio driver on my mac mini at work which is running leopard.

What happens is that when I change the SR from the gui of my app, the SR and Bit-Depth of the  built in i/o coreaudio displayed in audio midi setup often changes and then changes back, maybe a second later. Sometimes the bit-depth changes for no apparent reason. My app thinks it has changed the SR but the coreaudio stream has changed back, and this results in the test tone from my app being at the wrong pitch.

I have videoed these problems here: http://www.olilarkin.co.uk/temp/caproblem.mov please ignore the audio distortion in the video, that is not part of the problem.

The problems I'm having on my MBP only occur when stopping and restarting the stream at a new SR. If I restart the app the stream will launch at the correct SR/ 32bit.

I think this problem is probably due to the separation of the built-in i/o in snow leopard. I tried it with an aggregate device and it had the same issue.

Is anyone aware of what might be causing this? I am trying to work with the developer of RTAudio to fix it.

If you like you can try the test app here:

Many thanks,

Oli Larkin
